National Harbor 11 (Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center)
Primary Presenter:
Robert Seipel, CPA, MBA
Co-presenters:
Kelly Dennis, CPA and Franco Insana, CPA, MBA
Area of Emphasis: Financial Stewardship and Accountability
Learning Objectives:
1. Measure live length of service over a period of time
2. Assess live length of service trends to identify potential risk exposure
3. Integrate live length of service measurements into monthly risk and profitability analysis to stakeholders
When considering average length of service, most analysis is based on discharges.  However, in an environment where hospices have exposure to significant claims reviews deriving from long lengths of service, having a good understanding of the active roster of patients, or “live” length of service, is a critical part of risk management.  This session will provide participants with an understanding of how to determine and analyze live length of service information and trends, and will  share the experiences of two hospice CFOs who have considered live length of service as part of risk and profitability analysis with their Boards of Directors and other stakeholders within their organizations.
