In 2014, Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton identified a gap in clergy and caregiving laity’s comfort and knowledge related to providing care and support during illness, the end of life and while experiencing grief. This session will explore 3 key initiatives that have been developed since then and the impact each of them are having on faith communities. This presentation will include details about the three initiatives as well as the pre and post training survey results which support the learning that has occurred. Faculty will explore the successes experienced in congregations as a result of these trainings. Come hear about the “Matters of the Heart” series, the “Creating an Unbroken Circle of Care in Your Congregation” and our all day Clergy Retreat!
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify 3 issues that clergy are not comfortable with when providing support to congregants who are facing serious illness, death or grief
2. List 3 types of faith community outreach to provide education and support to clergy involved in ministering to the sick, dying and grieving
3. Describe 2 achievable outcomes (related to access and clergy education) following clergy training on end-of-life issues
