There is always tension between the hospice clinical and financial functions around the positive or negative impact hospice services and programs have on the organization. Sustainability encompasses both financial sustainability, the ability to generate resources to meet the needs of the present without compromising the future, and programmatic sustainability, the ability to develop, mature, and cycle out programs to be responsive to constituencies over time. Learn how to apply the quantitative sustainability matrix mapping methodology that measures both profitability and mission impact of all of a hospice's programs, services, and fundraising activities to improve strategic decision-making.

Learning Objectives:
1. Describe how the "strategic sweet spot" of programmatic mission impact and profitability can be analyzed using the Sustainability Matrix Mapping methodology
2. Define the steps in the Sustainability Matrix Mapping process
3. Describe how the Sustainability Matrix Mapping bubble diagram provides strategic guidance to grow, improve efficiency, increase mission impact, or eliminate a program
